Tim's laughter

Created by Maria one year ago
Tim Beddows loved life – he loved cars, films, television series – and few people had the encyclopaedic knowledge of cinema (especially Bond films) and television that Tim had and even fewer had such a passion for it.  Tim would also take equal pleasure in the small things of life – one of my favourite memories of him is relishing a slice of Carluccio’s chocolate and cherry panettone on New Year’s Eve and then deciding to order 5 of them on the spot. Tim never anything by halves. And it was this complete commitment to everything he did – including his love of Juan — that marked him out as such a special person as well as a great guy to be around. Tim was also one of the funniest people I ever met – whether it was dissecting the E-count in a supposedly healthy blueberry muffin on an early morning flight to Nice or discussing whether or not to take out a warranty on a new microwave oven (and Tim had trenchant views on the subject – no surprises for guessing his opinion!). I have never been able to look at a blueberry muffin the same way since and with the purchase of a new electrical appliance, we would always ask ‘What would Tim do?’ (although of course we can hear him, wherever he is, urging us not to do it!)

Tim was such a fabulous person to work with – an utter professional in every sense of the word. From our first collaboration on Tony Manero – and Tim had the eye to spot that Pablo Larraín was a talent to watch – Tim showed a loyalty to filmmakers and collaborators that is all too rare. His care over each and every film release – from the directors, to the viewer, to the screen and sound system – was legendary. Tim cared and it showed.

The world without Tim feels a much sadder place; a little of Tim’s laughter went a long way. And that laughter and generosity made the world a better place. Tim had a big heart and no one knew that more than his partner Juan. Every photo of them together features beaming smiles and a palpable sense of love and joy. A zest for life, for the adventures that took them across so many parts of the globe and for the humour and kindness that was such a feature of the friendship that we both had come to cherish so much.

‘A good bloke’ our 20-year-old son said on hearing of Tim’s passing. A good bloke indeed.  We will miss him hugely.
